Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO) Services
Clear answers for snippets, voice and AI
Most searches start with a question, and search engines increasingly reply with an answer rather than a list of links. Our answer engine optimisation service shapes your website so that answer comes from your business, in featured snippets, “People also ask” boxes, voice assistants and AI tools.
Tell us about your website and the questions your customers ask, and our search team will come back with a plan and costs.
What is answer engine optimisation?
Answer engine optimisation is the practice of writing and structuring content so that search engines can lift a clear answer from it and show it directly to the searcher. Traditional SEO works on rankings for keywords. AEO works on the individual question behind the search and on giving the most complete, quotable reply to it.
A well-answered question can appear in several places at once:
- Featured snippets at the top of Google’s results
- “People also ask” boxes further down the page
- Spoken answers from Google Assistant, Siri and Alexa
- AI assistants that draw on web content to build their replies
How we approach AEO
Map the questions
We collect the questions your customers ask using search data, "People also ask" results, your sales and support enquiries, and the questions your competitors already answer.
Check your current answers
We review which questions your site already covers, how clearly, and whether another page is being shown instead of yours.
Rewrite answer-first
Key pages are restructured with question-led headings, a direct opening answer and supporting detail beneath it. Lists and tables are used where a step-by-step or comparison answer suits the question.
Add structured data
FAQ, how-to and organisation schema help search engines understand what each answer is and who it comes from.
Track and refine
We monitor the snippets and answer boxes you win or lose and adjust the pages that are close to being chosen.
What an answer-ready page looks like
The difference is often in the first few lines. Take a page answering the question “how much does an accountant charge for a tax return?”.
Before: the page opens with two paragraphs about the firm’s history and values, and the fee is mentioned halfway down, inside a longer sentence about packages.
After: the page opens with a heading that matches the question, followed by one or two sentences giving the fee or range and what it depends on. The detail, examples and exceptions follow below for readers who want them.
Search engines can take the second version and show it as an answer. People reading it get what they came for straight away, which also tends to keep them on the page for longer.
The questions worth answering
Every sector has its own set of questions that come up again and again before someone buys. A few examples of where AEO tends to make a difference:
- Professional services: fees, timescales, what's included and what happens at the first appointment
- Ecommerce: sizing, delivery, returns, materials and product comparisons
- Hospitality and venues: capacity, accessibility, parking, dietary options and booking rules
- Trades and local services: call-out areas, typical costs, how long a job takes and what preparation is needed
- B2B suppliers: minimum orders, lead times, specifications and compliance standards
Answering these clearly can also reduce the number of repeat questions your team handles by phone and email.
AEO alongside GEO and AIO
Clear answers are the starting point for visibility in AI search. The same answer-first pages help Google choose your site as a source for its AI Overviews, and give tools such as ChatGPT reliable content to draw on when recommending businesses.
We usually plan the three together so the work on one supports the others.

AEO FAQs
How is AEO different from adding an FAQ page?
An FAQ page is one part of AEO, but answer engine optimisation applies across the whole site. Service, product and location pages are often where the most valuable answers belong, because that is where searchers land and where search engines look for the most relevant reply.
Do featured snippets still matter now Google shows AI Overviews?
Featured snippets still appear for many searches, and the content that earns them is the same kind of content Google uses in AI Overviews. Clear, well-structured answers help with both, so the work keeps its value as search results change.
Can AEO work on a small website?
A smaller site can compete well for answer placements, because search engines choose the clearest answer to a specific question rather than the biggest website. A focused set of well-answered pages is often more effective than a large number of thin ones.
How do you choose which questions to target?
We prioritise questions that are searched often, relate closely to what you sell and come from people who are close to making a decision. Questions your team already answers every week are usually a good place to start.
Does voice search need different content?
Voice assistants tend to read out short, direct answers written in natural language. Pages that open with a clear one or two sentence answer, and keep business details such as opening hours and locations accurate, are better placed to be used for spoken results.
